ISICOM-TF

The Integrated Space Infrastructure for global Communications (ISICOM) represents the mid-long term strategy of the ISI ETP in the institutional domain, and is the ISI proposal for an ambitious European Satellite Telecommunication program (encompassing R&D, infrastructure and services) targeting the institutional demand in the domain of security, transport and energy, that will:

  • enable the development of innovative technologies, products and services up to in-orbit validation and large scale pre operational experimentations;
  • improve Europe’s capacity to prevent and respond to crisis or disaster situations with a global, secure and resilient telecommunication infrastructure with state of the art broadband and handheld services capabilities;
  • provide telecom services to support GMES and Galileo operations

The ISICOM Initiative is in line with the European Policy Framework, which has identified Space as a key element of ESDP (European Security and Defence Policy):

  • Space and ESDP 2008 resolution:
    • “(EC) Supports the possibility of funding future European satellite telecommunications systems supporting ESDP operations from the EU budget”
  • M. Barosso October 09 speech on European Space policy
    • Security identified as part of the 4 new priorities for SPACE (2009 space strategy)
  • European Council resolution 10500/09, 29th May 2009
    • "RECOGNISES the need to explore innovative approaches and architectures for the provision of global satellite communications services in response to institutional demand in support of European programmes and policies, including transport, energy and security;"
